Womens Car Ball Championship Announces New Leadership

 

Rebecca Longawa (CEO) and Bethany Pyles (Director of Player Development and Growth Strategy) to undertake key leadership roles for premier women’s esports event.

We are excited to share that two of the*gameHERs staff have been selected for the Women’s Car Ball Championship League’s Leadership Team. Rebecca Longawa, Chief Strategy Officer at the*gameHERs will serve as the WCBC’s CEO and Bethany Pyles, the*gameHERs Collegiate Manager, will lead the WCBC’s Player Development and Growth Strategy. The WCBC and the*gameHERs are aligned on our missions to advance the growth in esports and gaming and we look forward to working together this season.

KANSAS CITY, MO (June 1, 2022) - Womens Car Ball Championship (WCBC) announced today that Rebecca Longawa has been appointed CEO, and Bethany Pyles will serve as Director of Player Development and Growth Strategy, of the esports league. An experienced business leader, Longawa will succeed Chase Mitchell, the founder of the WCBC. “Our goal is to bring women in esports to the forefront of the industry. As Rebecca and Bethany step in, they amplify WCBC’s vision to Grow, Improve, Encourage, and Shine. With the combined skill-set and thought leadership that Rebecca and Bethany bring to the table, they are the ideal pair to take the WCBC to the next level,” said Mitchell.

Rebecca Longawa

Longawa brings a background of over 20 years of experience in sports marketing and innovation. In addition to WCBC, she is the Founder and President of Happy Warrior, an esports consultancy firm. Her client work includes helping professional esports teams monetize their organizations through brand partnerships and growth strategies and working with agencies, technology, and media companies by bringing them into the esports ecosystem with authenticity and credibility.

Longawa is also an advisor and mentor for a number of global esports-tech VC firms and advises sports-technology and esports startups. She is the host of the podcast, “Future of Marketing in Esports” where she interviews executives throughout the gaming industry and uncovers key insights on how they are bringing their ideas to market. Additionally, she serves on The University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital Corporate Advisory Council and is a founding board member for MSP Esports Alliance and the WarriorGMR Foundation.

Bethany Pyles

Pyles began her esports career in 2018 as the Esports Program Manager for Connected Camps, which provided connected learning experiences for high school esports players that fostered creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and interest-driven learning. Since then, she has served in esports leadership roles at Microsoft: Minecraft Education Edition and the North America Scholastic Esports Federation. Complementing her role as Director of Player Development and Growth Strategy for WCBC, Pyles is also the Collegiate Manager at The*gameHERs and the Director of Coaching at Cloud9 Training Grounds. Bethany shared, “I’m honored to be a part of the new WCBC leadership team. My experience in and out of esports has always been motivated by a desire to support marginalized communities and amplify opportunities for women. As a gamer myself and as the Director of Growth Strategy and Player Development for the WCBC, I look forward to unlocking a more united esports landscape and developing the next generation of competitive esport athletes. I’m excited to bring my expertise in esports coaching, training, and competition to the expansion of the WCBC league and its community!”

The dynamic duo is laying the foundation for WCBC’s fifth season, scheduled to start this fall. Longawa shared, “I look forward to combining my experiences in brand building, fan engagement, and partnership strategy to champion a new era for the WCBC. I believe strongly in creating safe, inclusive spaces for women and want to grow the WCBC to be THE place for women rocket league players to grow together both in skill and professional development. I am excited to be bringing Bethany Pyles in alongside myself to champion this together.”
