Women Lead the Way At Esports BAR Cannes

Claire Hungate and Kim Phan are the keynote speakers this October at Esports BAR Cannes, the world’s esports business arena.

At a time when global esports revenues are set to break through the US$1bn mark this year, women leaders in esports are themselves breaking new ground, as they play an increasingly key role in setting the course of the industry, both culturally and commercially.

With Esports BAR Cannes 2021 opening on 13 October, participants from over 20 countries from around the world are getting ready to hear from two women keynote speakers: Claire Hungate, President & Chief Operating Officer of Team Liquid, the global professional gaming organization, and Kim Phan, Founder & Chief Operating Officer of RTS.

A host of other inspiring women leaders are also taking part in the packed three-day Conference Programme of Esports BAR Cannes, the world’s esports business arena. The event, held on the French Riviera, brings together the industry’s entire value chain to “level up together in esports.”

As a special for this year, Esports BAR Cannes is being held alongside MIPCOM 2021 (11-14 October), the world’s leading entertainment content market — a reflection of the rise in importance of esports within the entertainment industry.

As part of the Conference Programme, Claire Hungate, who joined Team Liquid earlier this year, will present the opening keynote speech for this 9th edition of Esports BAR Cannes. Claire is an internationally recognised expert and veteran in cross-platform content production, distribution and media businesses in the digital, social media and linear TV worlds.

At Esports BAR Cannes, Claire will focus on the ‘Evolution of Entertainment’, bringing her learnings from across the world of entertainment to the esports ecosystem, and highlighting how traditional media and esports can learn from each other.

About the event, she says: “This year’s speaker line-up features some of the brightest minds across multiple industry verticals. I appreciate the opportunity to join my counterparts and discuss esports’ continued evolution and how we can engage its growing audience of passionate and generational fans.”

On the second day of Esports BAR Cannes, the morning kicks off with a keynote speech by Kim Phan, Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer of RTS. Kim, a former top executive at Blizzard Entertainment and Endeavor, takes to the stage to share her insight into ‘Content Creating the Right Campaign’, looking at the challenges for brands and talent.

Kim has over 20 years of industry experience. She is also known for her work fostering the next generation of talent. At Esports BAR Cannes, she will guide the audience through answers to such key questions as: How can brands thrive in the esports ecosystem? How can brands incorporate content creators into their planning process?  How do you know if your content creation will resonate with the community?

“We are at a pivotal point in both the esports and creator industry as we continue to refine the business model to create a win-win for brands and talent to build a stable and sustainable industry,” she said in the run-up to Esports BAR Cannes. “I look forward to a gloves-off discussion on how brands and talent can strike the right chords together.”
